The idea behind our Blue Dream photography campaign was to create an aesthetically surreal set of fashion photographs that appear to be just as unsettling as they are mesmerising. The ripples and reflections in the water, the sharp decoration of the models, and the blue-grey, cold colour palette all come together to create a unique vibe and feeling that I am really pleased with as a photographer.
But while the product is stunning, the process required a lot of hard work and dedication as input to yield positive results. When it comes to fashion photography, your model is the primary focus of any given shot. In order to get a good shot that communicates with the viewer, you need to ensure that the subject of the photograph is comfortable and relaxed. This can be especially troubling to maintain when shooting in relatively harsh conditions such as in extremely hot or cold environments.
In our case, while the environment was controlled- the photoshoot was performed in a pool- the water body we were using for the gorgeous shots was cold and we did not want our models to spend a long period of time immersed in it as it made them uncomfortable. That meant that we had very limited time to capture each shot and ensure that every single element was perfectly positioned and amalgamated for some great fashion photography.
The process before the actual photography ran as smoothly as ever thanks to the cooperation and collaboration of our great team. The sharp makeup, slicked back hairstyles, and icy accessories perfectly complemented the rest of the scheme, occasionally offering contrasting pops of colour that lit up the photographs and added a whole new dimension.
Another factor to consider was the fact that since these were primarily upper body or head shots, we had to work with our models to create unique shapes and forms using just their head, shoulders, and occasionally hands, which made for some great creative experience and exposure.
